I still use 4.7.25 + patches myself. I don't know that we recommend any
particular BDB version, we've only ever not recommended a specific version.

We've run into some BDB lock leaks in early 4.8 that are fixed in 4.8.30.
Haven't done any extensive testing of 5.0.
All tests pass for me on Debian x86-64.
