This yields some surprises. For example, after a modify, the modifiersName is changed into the consumer's rootdn. This occurs because the modified entry returned by syncprov contains the same modifiersName as the consumer's copy, so no modifiersName gets appended to the list of modifications that's passed to the underlying database. At this point, the underlying database adds the missing modify opattrs, thus breaking consistency. I've modified syncrepl as to always check if the modify opattrs are present, and, if absent, pull them off the entry sent by syncprov. However, in this case, it's likely that the order of th attributes breaks between the producer and the consumer, thus causing issues at the next check. Maybe a better fix would be to allow syncrepl to instruct the database not to create the missing modify opattrs. Comments? p.

Just as an fyi, slapcat should never produce a result like this, with attributes interleaved. It's hard to tell from RFC2849 but I'm pretty certain that it's invalid for normal input too, but we accept it anyway (and clean it up, when everything is working right). That's probably the problem. Once the data's gone into the DB and come out again via slapcat, all of the attribute names are normalized, so any case differences would have disappeared.

This is usually fine with slapd because there is code there to accept invalid queries from the updatedn, but it is rejected if you're not using updatedn (which happens to be our case in a custom floating master scenario). The uploaded patch fixes this in slurpd by replacing its LDAPmod logic by one based on ldapmodify which generates proper requests. I know slurpd is considered deprecated, however this might be useful to others still using it and would allow to remove the exception from slapd code. Regards,

Since the entry is actually missing from the refresh data, the consumer treats it as deleted. Since the entry has children, it cannot actually be deleted, so it gets turned into a glue entry. So there's two issues - the provider should still send the UUID of the entry, so that the consumer doesn't consider it deleted. But also, this problem ought to have self-corrected. Crypt invalide credential

Hi, I'm using OpenLDAP under Linux/Gentoo (with crypt enabled). I can bind user with SSHA password, but i can't bind user with CRYPT password. OpenLDAP is link with Postfix/Courier and need CRYPT password. I check the ACL and it seem the issue isn't there. Anyone know how to fix this issue ? I have other postfix+openldap server and they all work without any problem. Thanks

Apparently, according to slurpd's replog, no operational attrs are modified on modrdn. In fact, modrdn is replicated as a plain modrdn, which does not alter the write-related operational attrs (nor it is allowed to, according to LDIF, as per RFC 2849). Rep-logging an additional modify that only changes the write-related operational attrs could fix the problem, at the cost of not making it atomical. A "cleaner" solution would be to wrap a modify with a control that gets added to the modrdn operation by slurpd, which modifies modifiersName, modifyTimestamp and entryCSN using the "relax" control. Or, the (yet unpublished) "relax" control could be redefined to allow an optional control value that contains a modification required to maintain consistency of the final entry, or something like that. This definitely needs investigation, but it could be considered yet another reason for dropping slurpd. p.

When performing the modrdn operation against the master, no update directives for the attributes 'modifiersName', 'modifyTimestamp', and 'entryCSN' are written to the replog file. Hence, the databases of master and slave differ by the values of these attributes after replication. This bug can be reproduced using e.g. the ldapmodrdn tool. OpenLDAP versions back to (at least) 2.3.24 are affected.

It's based on the paper published here http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/hpcs/WWW/HTML/publications/abs05-3.html Currently the performance is not very good; the algorithm can invoke multiple scans of the Clock list and our lock overhead for those scans is too high. I'm not planning to do any more with this at the moment, just wanted to post it so it doesn't get lost, in case someone else is interested. I didn't want to commit it behind #ifdef's because that would get too messy. This implementation deviates from the paper in two major respects: 1) it's possible for an EntryInfo node to get its Reference bit set even when the entry is not Resident. This happens very frequently, in cache_find_ndn. As such, EntryInfo nodes without an Entry, but that have been Referenced, do not get flushed by HANDtest. 2) Nodes can get their Reference bit cleared at many points during the Clock-Pro processing, so the bit is not a good indication of whether a node is currently in use and may be safely freed. So, elaborate lock checks are used at each point where the original algorithm would simply free a node (HANDcold, HANDtest). It would be nice if our locking setup could be simplified. If someone else wants to jump in and clean it up, it may be worth committing down the road.

Deny bind for subtree not working?

Hi I try to deni BIND for all entries in a subtree. I compiled openldap with the LDAP backend, because this is only a proxy that forwards request to another directory.
