Issue ID: 9522 Summary: RedHat packaging information is oudated Product: website Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: --- Component: website Assignee: bugs@openldap.org Reporter: brsolomon@deloitte.com Target Milestone: ---
The page https://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/105.html seems significantly outdated. It mentions:
"Red Hat includes precompiled versions of OpenLDAP in their 7.x through 9.0 distributions. These are outdated and slightly modified from the original OpenLDAP.org sources, and distributed versions prior to 9.0 cannot be expected to perform reliably under moderate to heavy loads." [end quote]
It seems like this is referring to Red Hat Linux, which has been discontinued since 2004, rather than Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Consequently, the note about ‘…cannot be expected to perform’ is misleading, especially since these versions could mistakenly be conflated with e.g. RHEL 7 or RHEL 8.

--- Comment #1 from Quanah Gibson-Mount quanah@openldap.org --- The FAQ is historical and read only.
However, the general problem with RH builds of OpenLDAP remains. They are out of date and poorly maintained and the advice remains to avoid them.
