I would note the release you are using is ancient, and it is well known that the build from RedHat/CentOS has numerous problems and is quite broken. You would be best served to build a current release of OpenLDAP yourself, or grab the package from http://ltb-project.org/wiki/download#openldap for OpenLDAP 2.4.36.
