Odd, the bus error shows up in the 2.6.3 package again in Debian:
00:00:01 Starting test001-slapadd for mdb...
running defines.sh Running slapadd to build slapd database... Bus error slapadd failed (138)!
00:00:01 Failed test001-slapadd for mdb after 0 seconds

You may wish to examine Debian's numerous patches to OpenLDAP, perhaps one of them is the source of the problem.
