slapadd: tools.c:494: bdb_tool_entry_put: Assertion `text->bv_val[0] == '\0'' failed.

I only tested with ldapadd, but at a glance I don't see what could be the difference. Unfortunately I won't be able to work at it/connect for a while (a week or so); I ran the whole test suite and this fix shouldn't break any existing test, in the meanwhile.
