Further investigation into this issue seems to indicate that the problem is more related to the Berkeley DB 4.7.25 database than it is related to OpenLDAP itself.
Sorry for causing trouble on this issue, I'll stick to 4.6 for the moment.
That makes no sense to me, BDB isn't communicating at the network level... Everything at that level is LDAP protocol.
