I'm not asking you to use pkg-config, I'm asking for you to install a pkg-config file when lmdb is installed so that other software that wants to find lmdb can do so using pkg-config.

Bundling a pkg-config file would mean agreeing to support it. We don't support tools we don't use.

It is meaningless in a source release. It is up to packagers/distros to decide how they want to package it. Thus it is up to packagers/distros to decide what should be in a pkg-config file.
