Gentoo Linux is now using autoconf 2.70+ and other distributions will be soon.
We've applied this straightforward fix: https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/ ?id=219efe93ddac271ee78c2aa5a87d7d93b6e055fc.
That's not really relevant, given that there are zero instances of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE in the 2.5 source tree.
A patch against master is welcome for any autoconf 2.7 issue(s) that may exist.
