That is a simple authentication sequence, to validate your username and
password. If you expect Apache to check group membership you should
check its config. Remember that it may be using Unix-style groups, in
which case there may be a cache involved (e.g. the nscd daemon) - in
that case you may not see the LDAP queries at the same time as the login
is processed.
