Replication Issue with OpenLDAP 2.6.3

Hi I am very new to OpenLDAP, and we have a multi master configuration with us and our replication is not working. The error we get in log file is mainly : slap_client_connect: URI=<provider url> DN="cn=<sample value>,dc=<sample value>,dc=<sample value>" ldap_sasl_bind_s failed (-1). PP/expiry issues with Ubuntu22 and RH6

Dear openldap experts, the company I work for recently migrated to Ubuntu 22.04, and we use openldap with password policies and password expiry (once per year), with no changes to OpenLDAP config. However, we also use a scientific linux 6 (SL6, ~RH6) compile machine for backwards compatibility purposes (also using OpenLDAP). Now what happens is: - user ldaptestuser1's password expires - she/he changes her/his password on Ubuntu (problem 1: no PP checking, maybe due to cache_credentials = yes in /etc/sssd/sssd.conf) - SL6 (host X) does not know about that (problem 2: pwd checking on SL6 _always_ yields a Constraint violation, so user ldaptestuser1 cannot login there): ldaptestuser1@X's password: You are required to change your password immediately (password aged) You are required to change your LDAP password immediately. Last login: DATE from Y WARNING: Your password has expired. You must change your password now and login again! Changing password for user ldaptestuser1. Enter login(LDAP) password: New password: Retype new password: LDAP password information update failed: Constraint violation Password fails quality checking policy passwd: Authentication token manipulation error Connection to X closed. I cannot see any relevant error in the server (sys)log (with stats logging). I might guess that the user tried to authenticate every few seconds (for whatever reason). But what I wonder most: The LDAP server does not seed to "set" the password expiration; it just has to check the value. And for the latter I see no need to log it in syslog. It seems the number is the number of seconds until the password actually expired. So is that a (historic) bug? And yes, I'm still running a historic 2.4 version of OpenLDAP, so no need to tell me that it's quite old. Hi, I have a system that fails to write to its lmdb based database. There is an assertion triggered from within mdb_txn_commit() inside mdb_page_dirty(). Problem getting slapd-meta to work

Hi there Sorry for the long post however I aim to provide as much information as possible to help pinpoint the issue. Also sorry for any wrong wording as I am still a bit overwhelmed with OpenLDAP and struggle to understand everything I need. From my predecessor I inherited an OpenLDAP 2.4.x cluster running on RHEL 7. My job is to migrate this cluster to OpenLDAP 2.6.x on RHEL 8. The cluster consists of two provider and four consumer servers. The old cluster was based on self-compiled original OpenLDAP binaries. For the new cluster I am using the LTB version of OpenLDAP, currently with version 2.6.8. I also switched from HDB to MDB with the new cluster and am using Let's Encrypt instead of DigiCert certificates and upped the TLS version from 1.0 to 1.2. And for the default password hashing algorhythm I switched from SSHA to ARGON2. So there are lots of changes that might potentially influence the meta databases though I did not see anything that suggests this. The synchronisation of the normal databases between the provider servers and to the consumer servers is working fine. My problem is with the meta databases I try to build using slapd-meta. They are only needed on the consumer servers. Unfortunately the meta databases do not seem to be created or are not working as expected. On the old cluster I can ldapsearch in the meta databases and they show up as trees when connecting with Apache Directory Studio. On the new cluster I am setting up I don't see those meta trees in Apache Directory Studio and ldapsearches don't return any results. Furthermore slapcat on those databases returns the message "slapcat: database doesn't support necessary operations." The meta trees don't query external servers but suffixmassage locally present sub-trees. From what I've read this could also be accomplished with slapd-relay but the man page states that it is experimental. That is why I am trying the same way my predecessor did using slapd-meta. I temporarily set the loglevel to 4094 but even then did not see any hint on what goes wrong with those meta databases. By the way, when I do set the loglevel so high I can no longer connect using Apache Directory Studio, but that is not the issue I'm concerned about. Neither the documentation, nor the slapd-meta man page, nor the very few tutorials/stackexchange-posts/mailinglist-posts I found online about meta-back helped me in solving this issue. That is why I hope someone on this mailinglist can spot an issue in my configuration. Or point me to other resources/tutorials or share some debugging advice. For the purpose of sharing the configuration I omitted all the schemata and some of the ACLs. Also I removed the linebreaks so what belongs together is all on one line. Lastly I redacted any sensitive information. It is attached as a text/ldif file. Client IP address in accesslog ?

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to get the client's IP address in the events recorded by accesslog (at least during BINDs). I found traces of requests for this dating back to 2010, but I haven't been able to determine if it was ever implemented. Technical account impersonation or not

Hello all, We currently use two distinct accounts for chaining and replication purpose. We want to use a passwordless policy and we go for certificates. As we only own a single certificate per slave server, this means that we authenticate as a single user. We see two way to do things: * Either we just use one account (bound by olcAuthzRegexp rule) and merge ACLs to allow this account to read the directory for sync and write authentication attributes for chaining * Or we keep two accounts and use Proxy Auth to impersonate the other one I personnaly would go for the first one as I don't see any value to use another mechanism given that these are technical accounts that have only one purpose each, except having a distinct login in the logs. What would you advice ? I may have miss something intersting, any security issue, or maybe there is another way. Thank you ! Jerome

ACL on userPassword attribute on a relay database

Hello dear Openldap community, I'm writing you this email because I'm trying to create a configuration using relay backend + rvm and settings ACLs in the virtual database and I must admit I'm a little bit confused about all these components are working together. I actually have two databases: - The real one dc=ptitoliv,dc=net - The virtual one dc=example,dc=com I did a simple configuration using the RWM overlay and the rwm-suffixmassage directive. Everything seems to be okay except for the ACL. More precisely, my concern is about the ACL to apply in order to restrict the access to the userPassword attribute to the "virtual self" on the virtual database. My current status is the following : - If I don't put any ACL on the relay database, the userPassword attribute is readable by any authenticated user which is a thing I don't want - If I put the following ACL "to attrs=userPassword by self write by anonymous auth by * none" on the relay database nobody can read the userPassword including the virtual self.
