This might just be another incarnation of ITS#5251 (duplicate results from getaddrinfo()).

Indeed removing 'localhost' from /etc/hosts in the line starting with '::1' solved this. On my former openSUSE 10.3 system I had disabled IPv6 completely. Hmm...

So you can mark ITS#5644 as duplicate of ITS#5251.
