In BDB the btree databases did also allow RECNUM access, allowing to access and cursor through the btree. LMDB does not include this feature, but for migrating existing deployments from BDB to LMDB this would be helpful.

Discussing this with Howard Chu at LDAPCone susuggested to create this issue to get the request evaluated and implemented
