Sounds more like a schema config issue then. Most likely you don't have the matching schema in the proxy server, so it is unable to store the entries it has received.

That was my first thought as well, but the proxy's slapd.conf he posted earlier included some samba-related schema file (I'm blindly assuming that file was defining sambaSamAccount).
