I noticed that I was intermixing overlay and database configuration statements, but this should be allowed in HEAD. Anyway, I now put configuration statements in the right order, but I've been able to reproduce the problem (not all times, and no devel tools on the maching where I could produce it, except gdb and an unstripped slapd build)....
