The interesting fact is that HEAD currently hangs all the time in test008. RE24 with your recent changes now fails as described in test039. Before these changes RE24 just worked fine.

I think this is related to modifications in connection.c because trouble started after HEAD contained these changes.

All tests pass for me with current RE24 and HEAD.

Currently all tests pass for RE24. Hmm, strange. Maybe some lib mix problem with the OpenLDAP client libs installed by openSUSE? I've removed them in the meantime to exclude any library mix.
