2.4.23 is quite old, plus yours has been patched by Debian so we don't know what it contains. You will have to get support from Debian. If you can reproduce the issue on our current release (2.4.34) then we will investigate it.
To add: I tried that with our own build of OpenLDAP 2.4.34 on Debian Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 and I can't reproduce the lockup.
