You are right, ldap_int_thread_mutex_(X) functions were introduced in 2.3.8 on 10/06/2005.
But there is NO declaration or function definition anywhere in the code.
Fixed in HEAD to ldap_pvt_thread_mutex_init() after an overeager namespace cleanup. (I had confused it with some libldap_r debug stuff.)
The other ldap_int_* stuff looks OK.
