Basically this line of mdb.c doesn't work on OS X:
#define ESECT __attribute__ ((section("text_env")))
You just get an error: "argument to 'section' attribute is not valid for this target: mach-o section specifier requires a segment and section separated by a comma"
I think you need to use this instead on this platform:
#define ESECT __attribute__ ((section("__TEXT,text_env")))
