starting slapd 2.4.10

Hi, I'm currently playing with Samba 4 alpha and OpenLdap 2.4.10. I want to start slapd with this command line (i'm currently logged in as root) : slapd -d 16384 -f /usr/local/samba/private/ldap/slapd.conf -h ldapi://%2Fusr%2Flocal%2Fsamba%2Fprivate%2Fldap%2Fldapi But I get the following error trace: @(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd 2.4.10 (Jul 11 2008 09:22:55) $ buildd@vernadsky:/build/buildd/openldap-2.4.10/debian/build/servers/slapd daemon: bind(7) failed errno=13 (Permission denied) slapd stopped. connections_destroy: nothing to destroy. I tried to replace the ldapi uri by "ldap:///", but now I'm getting a could not open config file "/usr/local/samba/private/ldap/slapd.conf": Permission denied (13) error message, while all rights and group/owner seem to be OK (ls -l returns -rw-r--r--). I think I miss something, but i'm stuck for now, if someone has any idea... thanks, chris

Trouble with nisnetgrouptriple syntax / RFC 2307

I've come across the same problem as the original poster found here: http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-technical/200804/msg00127.html The only reply to him indicated that his syntax was incorrect for nisnetgrouptriple according to RFC 2307. I cannot see how it is invalid based on the syntax definition from RFC 2307. My example: > dn: cn=users1,ou=Netgroup,dc=rcf,dc=foo,dc=com > objectClass: nisNetgroup > objectClass: top > cn: users1 > nisNetgroupTriple: (-,asgen2m,) > nisNetgroupTriple: (-,apdons,) > nisNetgroupTriple: (-,ffeins,) > nisNetgroupTriple: (-,faullton,) The syntax definition: > nisnetgrouptriple = "(" hostname "," username "," domainname ")" > hostname = "" / "-" / keystring > username = "" / "-" / keystring > domainname = "" / "-" / keystring Does that not state that hostname, username, domainname can each be ANY of: empty - keystring ?? script for adding users information in ldap database

hi, i had configured openldap in RHEL 5. It was in master/slave replication in syncrepl method (refreshOnly) method. I had to add users information in the ldap database. Nearly 15000 users are there so i can able to add all the 15000 users infromation at a time. so i need a script or some utility to add all the user infromation at the same time. Am using LDAP Browser for adding the entries now. so plz help me how to add all the users information at single time.

N-way multimaster

Hi. I need help to fix a problem. I am running openLdap 2.4 I have configurated 2 multimaster servers, which works fine, but I was thinking what happen if one of them die? When that master is restarted read the "logold" parameter in the other master and synchronize the changes, problem solved. But what happen if one master dies, meanwhile the other master performs changes in the Ldap tree (add, modify, delete) and that master dies too? I have test it and the changes that I made in the second master are not synchronized on the first one, and I don t know how I can synchronize the changes, I have accesslog configurated, I can see in the second one log these changes but the first one doesn t read it when is restarted. I need your help. sorry by the bad english. Migue

slapd was refusing connections from local clients

I had a strange situation where the slapd would accept connections from other machines, but not from the local host. It didn't matter whether the local client program was the RADIUS server or ldapsearch. According to netstat & lsof, slapd was listening on all interfaces. Setup: * CentOS release 4.6 * slapd 2.2.13 (Jul 11 2008 09:16:05) (CentOS package) * This slapd maintains a replica data base. (The slapd on the master server is slapd 2.3.35, Jun 11 2007, running on Solaris 10.) * FreeRADIUS Version 1.0.1, built on May 10 2007 -- it uses the local slapd to get user names & passwords. Yesterday we had a power outage, and the UPS didn't work :-( Someone suggested that maybe things came up in the wrong order & that a reboot would help. And the reboot did indeed solve the problem. But I'd still like to know what happened. Before the reboot, I even tried turning on the following log levels (in /etc/slapd.conf): loglevel conns config stats sync packets BER ACL none But I really couldn't find any messages that helped me understand *why* I had this strange problem. Any suggestions, or even pointers on how to find out? Changing password from squirrelmail

hi, I had configured openldap 2.3 in RHEL 5 operating system, and my squirrel mail is running in RHEL 4. I had integrated these two for address book synchronization. Its working fine .In my squirrelmail options i had change password option. I can able to chang the password by giving the old password and typing new password. SO that it will automatically changed in openldap database also for a particular user. But when am trying to change the password am getting error, *"Your login account was not found in the LDAP database, cannot change password!"*

Newbie OpenLDAP woes

Hi everyone, I am new to OpenLDAP and this list. I joined because I am trying to set up an OpenLDAP server so that Moodle and ELGG can authenticate users from the LDAP server. It is a little more difficult than I thought it would be, and I am running into some frustrating problems that I don't understand. I am hoping someone here might be able to help. I am using Ubuntu and using the book Mastering OpenLDAP as my guide. I have the server set up, edited config files and installed phpldapadmin to make things a little easier for me. I added my first entries but do not see them when I do a search, and nothing appears under my base in phpldapadmin (see attached screen shot). I don't get any complaints when I add the entries from my .ldif file, so I just don't understand why they don't seem to end up in my directory. When I try typing in a password to login to phpldapadmin it rejects my credentials and the same thing when I try using -w with a password on the command line. Problems using OpenLPAP for authentification of users: Client library issues STARTTLS but TLS is not configured

Hi, well, i don´t know what i´m doing wrong. I just want to authenticate unix and windows users against OpenLDAP Database. I followed some howtos to setup openldap, winbind etc. and nearly everything seems just fine. But authenticating unix users finally doesn´t work. I´ve attached the syslog output. START TLS extension not supportet. This is true, as i haven´t configured OpenLPAP for TLS. But my LDAP client configuration doesn´t specify an LDAPS URL. So what´s going wrong? LDAP binding failure to Active Directory using certificates

Greetings: I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this problem. I am endevouring to use ldapmodify (from OpenLDAP 2.3) to connect to a domain controller (named intacta) in our Active Directory forest and perform account management operations. For this purpose, the bind to the AD's LDAP must provide credentials of a user with the rights to manage accounts in the domain in question. I'm attempting to perform the authentication using certificates generated by a certificate authority which we have established on a domain controller in the forest root domain of our AD (not the same domain as the domain where we are trying to perform account management but is the same forest). The bind account is named test_account_manager and the user certificate CSCFForestAccount.cer (listed below) is name mapped to the account. All domain controllers in the forest have domain controller certificates distributed to them from the forest's certificate authority. Below is the content of my .ldaprc file on the Solaris 8 host where I'm attempting to run ldapmodify. As stated above, the TLS_CERT certificate is name mapped to the test_account_manager account in the AD. The account of coarse, has a password but the key file has no access password as I believe is necessary for the current version of openldap.
