Sun LDAP to OpenLDAP

Hi , We are migrating our infrastructure from Sun Solaris to AWS. So as a part of migration we need to do the transition from Sun Directory Server to OpenLDAP. I exported the user database in ldif file from Sun LDAP. Now I am trying to import the database in to OpenLDAP Server on Ubuntu which I've installed in AWS. While importing the database I am getting a lots of error , because the sun schema for storing the users and openldap is totally different. The issue I'm currently stuck on is getting the data in the LDIF into a format that can be imported using slapadd/ldapadd Any help would be appreciated Below are the details for Ubuntu Server and OpenLDAP Server OS : Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release: 10.04 OpenLDAP Version : *slapd 2.4.21-0ubuntu5.7 OpenLDAP server (slapd)* Thanks Suresh

All, The following are excerpts from my multi-master logs and at the end are the cn=config dbase for both systems. I can see that communications are being attempted, but not succeeding. The other day, entries were added to "cn=role2,ou=sudoers,dc=example,dc=ldap" to the Syncrepl... I have opened up my ACLs (may not be reflected in the cn=config below) for "uid=replicator,ou=Admins,dc=example,dc=ldap" and "cn=ldapadmin,dc=example,dc=ldap". The replicator account is the rootDN for /var/lib/openldap/accesslog with read privs on olcDatabase={1}bdb (primary dbase). The ldapadmin account is the rootDN for the olcDatabase={1}bdb and full write privs on the accesslog dbase. The olcSyncRepl rids are authenticating to ldapadmin (I removed the binding to replicator for troubleshooting -- alas no affect). I am hoping some other eyes can see where my mistake(s) are and point me in the correct direction. Honestly, I am not even sure where to start asking questions. If I read the ACLs sections correctly (both in the Admin Guide and man-page), the rootDNs are granted full read/write everywhere privs by default to their respective Databases. So, with that logic I shouldn't have to put the "replicator" in the olcAccess for olcDataBase={2}bdb (accesslog dbase)...only the ldapadmin account should have an entry. Correct? And, I shouldn't have to put the ldapadmin account in the olcAccess for the olcDatabase={1}bdb (primary dbase). Correct? What am I missing? And where? LMDB: transactions across dbis, dbi lifetime

Hi, I'm having trouble understanding the interaction between txns and dbis in LMDB. Quoting from the docs for mdb_dbi_open(): The database handle will be private to the current transaction until the transaction is successfully committed. If the transaction is aborted the handle will be closed automatically. After a successful commit the handle will reside in the shared environment, and may be used by other transactions. This function must not be called from multiple concurrent transactions. A transaction that uses this function must finish (either commit or abort) before any other transaction may use this function. 1. Is it legal to: a. begin a txn b. open a bunch of dbis in that txn. c. perform some operations (get/put) on distinct dbis. d. commit the txn. In other words, may a txn span multiple dbis? 2. AFTER the initial transaction in which mdb_dbi_open() was called has been committed, can I freely use the dbi in subsequent transactions? I.e. stash it away in a static variable? 3. Is the dbi still valid if a subsequent transaction on it is aborted with mdb_txn_abort()? The first part of the quoted paragraph suggests not...? I have tested at least points 1. and 2. above and "it seems to work" but I'd like to verify that this is actually expected usage. I've not particularly tested for point 3. but it would make programming to the API rather hard if I had to reopen dbis whenever a higher level operation fails. Martin

Hi, I'm trying to build a ldap query with the current date or the current timestamp (something like myAttributeDate >= now()). All solutions I've found on Internet require to compute the current date in a script and then build the ldap query with the computed date. Unfortunately, I can't do this because the ldap query will be in a static file: ldap_filter in /etc/saslauthd.conf. ldap/pwd complexity and PAM?

Hi; In my free time, I've been studying openldap and the ppolicy overlay. I started working on password complexity today. While searching for information on implementing complexity, I ran across the link immediately following which seems to indicate that openldap honors the settings in /etc/pam.d/password-auth. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2172393 I tried configuring that on a test kvm and can't even get it working with local accounts so obviously I borked something in the password-auth file - like maybe not even the right pam.d file; however, before I spend a whole lot of time troubleshooting this, is my understanding accurate? Will openldap honor the settings in pam.d? It seems that'd be a whole lot cleaner and more supportable than compiling a specialized password checking module. Any info greatly appreciated. MIT Kerberos and LDAP Backend Passwords synchronization

Hello all, I configured a KDC (MIT Kerberos 1.12.1) with an OpenLDAP (2.4.32) Backend. Everything is working fine. We want to migrate smoothly from LDAP password to KDC password. For that purpose, we plan to force user to change their password using ldappasswd command, intercept the password modification with smbkrb5pwd overlay and then change the userPassword attribute for SASL passthrough. I setup up the overlay smbkrb5pwd (last git version) to synchronized LDAP and Kerberos passwords as decribed on https://github.com/opinsys/smbkrb5pwd The module is loaded correctly. However, the "ldappasswd" command hangs now. This is apparently due to a locking issue. Is anyone succeeded to configure the overlay ? Is there any other way to synchronize LDAP et KDC passwords when OpenLDAP is used as a Backend ?

LDAP proxy and memberOf overlay

Hi List, I am currently stuck with setting up OpenLDAP servers to fully address my use case. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I think it comes down to the point at where I do not know how to use the memberOf overlay with an LDAP proxy (back_ldap). First the use case: * I have a corporate OpenLDAP server that holds entries for our employees * There are also multiple http-based services which are allowed to be used after successful user authentication and given that group membership requirements are met. * The http-based services need to be accessed by both internal employees (those for which entries are stored in the corporate OpenLDAP server) and external people (for which there are no user entries yet). The task is to come up with an approach that supports the following: * allow the http-based services to authenticate both internal and external users against an OpenLDAP server * allow authorization based on group memberships * entries that represent external people are not allowed to be stored in the existing corporate OpenLDAP server * entries that represent group memberships are not allowed to be stored in the existing corporate OpenLDAP server * in general, no changes to the corporate OpenLDAP server are allowed at all Here is my approach so far: * I have set up a new OpenLDAP server with two databases. * The first is a local hdb database. The suffix is set to a subordinate of the corporate OpenLDAP server. * The second is a ldap database, which points to and has the same suffix as the corporate OpenLDAP server. The purpose of the local hdb database is twofold * it should store entries for external people * it should store the group memberships for both external people and employees from my own company I did some tests with Apache 2.2.22, mod_ldap and mod_authnz_ldap. I can authenticate both types of users (external from hdb and internal from ldap). I can even authorize them based on their group membership (using groupOfNames stored in the local hdb database). The group membership check also works for user entries that are proxied via the ldap database backend. However, the approach fails for services that need the memberOf overlay for making authorization decisions based on group membership (ownCloud is such an example). I have enabled the memberOf overlay for the local hdb database. So external users are not the problem. However, I cannot enable it for the ldap database, as I am not allowed to make any changes to the user entries of the corporate OpenLDAP server. That is, I am not allowed to add the memberOf attribute to the respective entries - even if ACLs would allow me to do so. Now this is the point where I am stuck. Basically, I am looking for a way to add the memberOf attribute to proxied user entries locally on my new OpenLDAP server, without affecting the entries in the corporate OpenLDAP server. Hi, What is a proper set of actions to add attribute via cn=config to custom schema, also add attribute to custom objectclass? My way: 1. Add attribute 2. Delete old objectlass definition 3. Add new objectClass with new attribute included What if I have 100 objectClasses, and want replace only 1? I am in trouble to do this on Debian wheezy, slapd 2.4.31. My test.ldif: ------------------------------------------ dn: cn={8}ktuEduPerson,cn=schema,cn=config changetype: modify add: olcAttributeTypes olcAttributeTypes: ( ktuAttributeType:36 NAME 'macaroni' DESC 'LDAP attribute for macaroni' EQUALITY caseIgnoreMatch SUBSTR caseIgnoreSub stringsMatch SYNTAX 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.15 ) Let's add the attribute: $ ldapmodify ... -f test.ldif Enter LDAP Password: modifying entry "cn={8}ktuEduPerson,cn=schema,cn=config" ldap_modify: No such object (32) $ Ooops, something went wrong, but cn=config sees this attribute: $ ldapsearch ... "cn={8}ktuEduPerson,cn=schema,cn=config" | grep macaroni Enter LDAP Password: olcAttributeTypes: {41}( ktuAttributeType:36 NAME 'macaroni' DESC 'LDAP ... $ But in case of VM/slapd restart, my macaroni attribute will be gone: $ sudo grep -iR macaroni /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ $ Access rights of process and config files are ok. Changing lets say olcLogLevel works fine, config is synced. Am I the only one in the world facing this problem? Or I should fill 69th bug on slapd in Debian? Is slapd package usable in Debian for something bigger than kindergarden? I'm trying to configure a means to be able to get the lastlogin time for users in my environment. However, since I'm stuck using the RHEL version of OpenLDAP I can't take advantage of the "lastbind overlay" Here's my config. overlay accesslog logdb cn=accesslog logops bind logsuccess TRUE # scan the accesslog DB every day, and purge entries older than 90 days logpurge 90+00:00 01+00:00 The accesslog DB is populated and I can query for BIND operations, however the only BIND operations that get recorded are BINDS to the LDAP server itself. BINDS to clients do not get recorded in the accesslog. Is this the advertised behavior of the accesslog? -Mike
