Transparent proxy to existing LDAP but with replacing specific attribute from another source

Hi. A have Active Directory domain across 30+ domain controllers. In one single location, I have a server with corporate software that uses AD as normal ordinary LDAP with simple binds and it takes users. I want to add users their high quality photos, but I don't want them across all domain controllers in active directory. Can I build a proxy server with OpenLDAP that will proxy all requests to backend AD servers and return results, but for results it will replace one attribute, jpegPhoto, if it was requested, with some binary contents taken from elsewhere ?

olcDbMaxSize decrease possible?

Hi there For some reason I don't remember I set the olcDbMaxSize to 4 GB. Turns out that is way too large for our OpenLDAP servers. Both the admin guide and the slapd-mdb manpage state that "this setting may be changed upward". Unfortunately there is no mentioning of decreasing that size. On our servers the data.mdb and lock.mdb Files together are around 176 MB. I don't really expect a significant growth of our OpenLDAP Servers. So I guess that setting it to 1 GB or even just 500 MB would be more than enough for our needs in the coming years. So my question is, can I also decrease that size? Or should I just let it be at 4 GB even though we will never ever come close to that? Thanks a lot and best regards, Cyril

Querying a tree covered by multiple databases

Greetings. If I have a server which manages a tree split into two databases, one covering o=top, and one ou=sub,o=top, then a query against base o=top with subtree scope returns only objects within the first database, and not the second. Should I have expected that? (I didn't) [ This is a for-interest question. This isn't really a practical problem for me: I'm encountering it because I have a situation where I'm searching objects in ou=sub,o=top and in o=top, which would be on different servers in the real case, but which are in the same server as part of a test harness. Of course, I doubt it would be a good production design to have a tree split into multiple databases like this. ] That makes sense if the semantics of a search are that it searches a _database_, but it conflicts with the intuition that a search is of a _tree_, where I'd expect a search of o=top to implicitly include ou=sub,o=top as well. My problem is that I can't find where in the manual it tells me I should expect the former rather than the latter. What have I not read? Both ldapsearch(1) and ldap_search(3) discuss the scope in terms of sub_tree_, and don't mention databases (I wouldn't expect them to, since here a 'database' is an implementation detail of the LDAP server). Section 1.1 of TFM says 'A directory is a specialized database specifically designed for searching and browsing', but that's 'database' being used somewhat generically. Perhaps I should be looking at referrals? But the introduction of referrals in TFM suggest that these are a mechanism for referring clients to servers broadly 'elsewhere', and Sect. 5.3 documents olcReferral by saying that 'queries not local to one of the databases defined below will be referred to the LDAP server running on [another server]'. OpenLDAP 3-way multimaster oathHOTPCounter problem

Hello! I am using a 3-way multimaster syncrepl setup with the slapo-otp module. My problem is that when authenticating with a user using HOTP, the attribute oathHOTPCounter only updates the value on the target ldap instance. This means the other two ldap instances do not get the updated HOTP-counter value and therefore will allow authentication using the same HOTP code. Interestingly enough, if I manually edit the oathHOTPCounter value it synchronizes with the other masters. Any idea what the problem could be?

Passwords of usernames 4. password of groups And some CN Note: Not only I don't want to use /etc/passwd and local authentication, but also I need to virtual {user,account}. Hello, we fighting since upgrade from Buster to Bookworm with smaller and bigger issues on our OpenLDAP. We use WebADM as IDM (Rcdevs) and this is using OpenLDAP as backend. Since a long while on Bookworm, we have the issues, that slapd stucks on operations, like on adding entries. For example adding more than 1 CN entry to an existing OU. The only way to get all working is again, to stop slapd, but systemctl stop slapd doesn't work, you have to use kill -9 .. and that, pretty often. So, I hoped, to get it working again, I cloned the VMs; cutted the (normal) network and used a localhost bridge, so that both can see each others, without issues. Then I've created a backup (slapcat); deleted the db and slapd.d/cn=config ... and restored on both the DB. slapo-otp: manual page could be improved

Hi! Reading the slapo-otp manual page, It's not quite clear to me how it works: * The tokens are stored in a separate entry, but does the manual page say what object type that entry has to be? I wonder why the token isn't stored directly within the user entry as tokens most likely are not shared. * Likewise "parameters" are stored in a separate entry; again what object type would those be? * Confusingly the manual talks about "attributes" next: Are those "parameters"? I mean: length and HMAC algorithm might be shared among entries, but counter and time-step cannot. A sample configuration would be really helpful, given that the only reference is "See also slapd-config(5)". Kind regards, Ulrich Windl

Migration from 2.4 to 2.5: problem with using "olcPPolicyDefault" in ACL duriung slapadd

Hi! I'm about to migrate openLDAP 2.4 from SLES12 SP5 to openLDAP 2.5 from SLES15 SP6, following the rather terse https://www.openldap.org/doc/admin25/appendix-upgrading.html. Change from mono to multivalued
