I'm having a hard time understanding it. I'm using the latest openldap on ubuntu 10.10 and I can't pinpoint the exact master configuration syntax that sets up the provider to push changes to the consumers.

Why would it? You need to set up the provider to push changes, as detailed in the Admin guide section I sent to you yesterday.

You may wish to download and compile the source yourself, and then look at test048-syncrepl-multiproxy
