Hi everyone,
I am trying to implement Kerberos authentication and I believe I am almost there, however when I run the ldapwhoami command I am getting a segmentation fault rather than a success message. Here is the output of the ldapwhoami (yes, I have a Kerberos ticket):
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started SASL username: dsavard@CIDS.CA SASL SSF: 56 SASL data security layer installed. dn:cn=daniel savard,dc=cids,dc=ca Segmentation fault
The cn is properly mapped. When switching debug on I am getting the following messages and the only thing I find as a potential indication of my problem is this message (res_errno: 14, res_error: <SASL(0): successful result: security flags do not match required>, res_matched: <>) however I am not able to decipher what it means exactly:

You should always start with an indication of what version of OpenLDAP you're using (i.e., what version of OpenLDAP "ldapwhoami" comes from). Also whether or not it is your own build, or if you are using a distribution build. If you are using a distribution build, what distribution, etc.
Thanks!

This could be a libsasl2 problem. What version of cyrus sasl do you have installed, and what kerberos library/version is it compiled against?
If you're running libsasl2 > 2.1.23, see if either of these apply to you:
https://bugzilla.cyrusimap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3480 https://bugzilla.cyrusimap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3445

MIT Kerberos 1.9.2-r2 Cyrus-Sasl 2.1.23-r6 OpenLDAP 2.4.24
Linux distro: Gentoo
Code fragment from plugins/gssapi.c compared to bug 3445 and its patch:
if (output_token->value && output) { int len;
ret = _plug_buf_alloc(text->utils, &(text->encode_buf), &(text->encode_buf_len), output_token->length + 4);
if (ret != SASL_OK) { GSS_LOCK_MUTEX(text->utils); gss_release_buffer(&min_stat, output_token); GSS_UNLOCK_MUTEX(text->utils); return ret; }
len = htonl(output_token->length); memcpy(text->encode_buf, &len, 4); memcpy(text->encode_buf + 4, output_token->value, output_token->length); }
This one seems correct. And code fragment compared to patch for bug 3480:
/* Setup req_flags properly */ req_flags = GSS_C_MUTUAL_FLAG | GSS_C_SEQUENCE_FLAG; if(params->props.max_ssf > params->external_ssf) { /* We are requesting a security layer */ req_flags |= GSS_C_INTEG_FLAG; /* Any SSF bigger than 1 is confidentiality. */ /* Let's check if the client of the API requires confidentiality, and it wasn't already provided by an external layer */
Seems correct too.
For the records, I did upgrade to OpenLDAP 2.4.28, latest stuff. It doesn't solve anything.
How can I debug this problem? Anything else I can do?

If the issue is what version of Kerberos sasl is linked against, upgrading OpenLDAP isn't going to help you at all. I suggest you run your ldapsearch command under gdb and get a backtrace of where the segfault is occurring.

Very strange findings. First, I decided to try the ldapwhoami from another client and here what I got:
$ ldapwhoami SASL/GSSAPI authentication started SASL username: dsavard@CIDS.CA SASL SSF: 56 SASL data security layer installed. dn:cn=daniel savard,dc=cids,dc=ca $ echo $? 0 $
Then I did ran with gdb the ldapwhoami on the previous client and here is what I got:
(gdb) run Starting program: /usr/bin/ldapwhoami [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] SASL/GSSAPI authentication started SASL username: dsavard@CIDS.CA SASL SSF: 56 SASL data security layer installed. dn:cn=daniel savard,dc=cids,dc=ca
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0xb7e82231 in free () from /lib/libc.so.6 (gdb)
glibc is same version everywhere, as openldap, openssl, sasl and mit-krb5. So far, the only difference I see is the architecture, the working one is 64-bits while others are 32-bits.
I did the same with a ldapsearch which is working but SIGSEGV on the 32-bits clients.
Anything else I can do to identify the problem and fix it?

Hi,
I had some weirdness associated with client programs under x86 architecture that I experienced a while back. The version was 2.4.24 and above (IIRC). I use GSSAPI via SASL for authentication and I'm also using Gentoo with both 32/64 builds of OpenLDAP. What I found was that not building Cyrus-SASL with PostgreSQL support caused the problem to go away. In my case the problem was an issue which occurred when freeing memory after client programs like ldapwhoami terminated (either successfully or not).
