Hello,
maybe it is a dummy question but i'd like to know why i have so big discrepancy in execution between two apparently identical ldapsearch ?
The 1st search takes 94 ms while the 2nd one only 7 ms. It doesn't matter how many times i execute the 1st search (meaning everytihng should be already cached) .. it is always the same.
Does anyone know why?

Are the attrs list returned in both entries euqal ?
Try to use the 1.1 attrs list.
man ldapsearch: If no attrs are listed, all user attributes are returned. If only 1.1 is listed, no attributes will be returned.

Hi,
What version of OpenLDAP are you using? I recall there being some issues recently with freeing cache on large databases. You may be running into this since you have 2 million entries and cachesize set to 600000 - thus not all entries fit in the cache. Whichever, I recommend using the latest, 2.4.16.
If performance is very important to you, you might consider optimising your cache parameters some more. Ideally, you could store all the BDB indexes (all *.bdb files in the BDB directory) in memory, and all entries.
If you have enough memory, and all your entries are likely to be requested, set cachesize higher than 2 million. See this FAQ entry for some more details: http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/1075.html.
