slapdelete would be a fine compromise since I will not be deleting olc entries often. IMO, this is one issue that should be addressed before slapd.conf support is dropped. A practical benefit of slapdelete is getting users to stop manually deleting entries from slapd.d, which seems to be a common (mal)practice.
