I'm doing something similar to what you want and it's as well to point out that the site uses ppolicy for posixAccounts and I don't think I could do it without (can for Samba, but that's another matter), since it has the standard attribute pwdChangedTime.
I suppose I could use shadowLastChange, since that gets updated too ... but I don't in this case.
