Hi,
I would highly appreciate if someone can provide the following -
a. A sample bdb section for slapd.conf that shows what parameters need to be configured and to what values [may be a range] for withstanding a relatively heavy load [about 50 - 150 concurrent users each pumping a lot of data]. Also if some parameters should be configured in a DB_CONFIG file. Also - the thread pool size is important.
b. A sample bdb section for slapd.conf that shows what parameters need to be configured and to what values [may be a range] for withstanding a medium load [about 10 - 15 concurrent users each pumping some data]. Also if some parameters should be configured in a DB_CONFIG file. Also - the thread pool size is important.
There are lots of material in the archive regarding this - but not with much specificity. So if someone summarizes this in one place that would be of great help.

Did you read the FAQ entries about tuning BDB?

In both cases [a & b] - mostly writing than reading.
There are multiple faq entries for bdb tuning. The thing I'm asking for is a consolidated block in which if you can mention the parameters (I know most of them) and their recommended values (the values or their range is important).

If you've read the FAQ entries, then you understand, I'm sure, that the values necessary rely entirely on your database usage patterns and the size of your database. Therefore, no one can recommend to you what you should set them to. What you can do, is take the guidelines already laid out in the FAQ entries, and apply them to your environment. Or you could provide useful information, and people could come up with numbers to throw at you. ;)

Thanks Quanah - I'll go thru the faq first more thoroughly.
One more question is that in the faq/archive etc I found few benchmarks on openldap - but none of them are very recent or not much detailed. Is there a relatively recent and detailed benchmark on openldap in one/more platforms?

Also, Howard Chu will be presenting updated benchmarks this week at SCALE.

Hi Rajarshi,
I didn't see a reply to this question, so here you go:
http://www.symas.com/benchmark.shtml
There are many recent benchmarks here for several different platforms. The benchmarks are honest and test real-world scenarios. We also provided our benchmarking methodologies so you can repeat them yourself.
Have fun!

Thanks a lot Matthew. Actually - Quanah has also mentioned about this benchmark.

If you're doing more writing than reading, then quite possibly you should not be using LDAP at all. (Of course with the back-hdb backend, you can get write rates equally fast to read rates, so it may not matter.) In general, directories are intended for read-mostly applications. However, they are also intended for distributed access to information, and that consideration might outweigh the read/write ratios.
