Hi,
I'm running an openldap 2.2.23 replica on a debian 3.1 (sarge) system. Once in a while the index gets damaged and I have to use slapreindex to get authentication working again.
The master server is running on fedora core (I don't know the version).
Is there anything I can do about this problem?
Thanks
David Prüm
Upgrading to 2.3.28 would be a good start.

Well, I've never seen that behavior, and your report is kind of vague on the details. But I'd certainly recommend using a current version of OpenLDAP (2.3.28 is the current release). Or at least use 2.2.30, which was the final 2.2 release.
What version of BDB is your replica using? 4.2? 4.3?

Howard reminded me to ask... What database backend are you using? LDBM? BDB?

Im using the ldbm backend as was suggested for debian (I can't recall from where I got this). I think it internally uses bdb 4.3
I would rather stay with the version packaged with my distribution if there is no known issue with it.
I have no control over the master-server, but as far as i know it also uses an openldap 2.2.x.

Well, definitely don't use LDBM.

There are lots of known problems with the release you are using.

You may wish to talk with whomever runs the master, and see if you can coordinate upgrading to something more recent and supported.

Great, two mistakes in one. Don't use back-ldbm. Don't use BDB 4.3.
