If you're doing more writing than reading, then quite possibly you should not be using LDAP at all. (Of course with the back-hdb backend, you can get write rates equally fast to read rates, so it may not matter.) In general, directories are intended for read-mostly applications. However, they are also intended for distributed access to information, and that consideration might outweigh the read/write ratios.
