To All: My employers wish to use a SQL Database (specifically MySQL) as the data store for OpenLDAP. All of the information I have been able to find thus far seems to indicate that while this may be technically possible, it is a very bad idea.
Therefore, I wish to know if any of you have any experience with using a SQL database for the data store, or if it is such a bad idea what specific reasons is it such?

See http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?file=378 for the last question. A description of why it's a bad idea, followed by a link to how IBM explains they did it and got good performance anyway:-)

Hmm, the FAQ entry doesn't even mention replication.
Compared to syncrepl, I find MySQL's replication mechanism immature, and for data currently sitting in MySQL that I need in multiple sites, I'm currently looking at migrating it to LDAP ...
BTW, what are your employer's reasons for wanting to backend on MySQL ?
