Hi all,
How was the OpenLDAP developers' day? :) I wasn't able to attend but am curious about the discussions and presentations.
Could someone write a brief summary of the highlights. Perhaps there are slides available or audio/video.
Sorry AFAIK no audio/video recording.
My spontanious and incomplete summary would be:
- well visited event with about 30 people - as usual very interesting very technical presentations, which will be on-line soon. - one highlight was the discussion taking place between OpenLDAP core team and samba folks, which showed some common interests and ideas - OpenLDAP works stable even with 150 million entries and performs well in comparision with other products - overlays rule. They are flexible and nicely integratable. - there is sort of a move (through overlays) from LDAP as a stupid data store (thats what X.500 was invented for) to a more intelligent server, which does things like referential integrity checking, etc. To me this is a paradigm change. - back-ldap and back-meta are being maintained and used in production environments - future work on several subjects was mentioned: transactions, component matching, LDAP prep character encoding - A strong need for more documentation was expressed - There is need for newcommers to the core development team. The core team is very much willing to help developpers grow into that role.
I would like to thank all participants for their valuable input at the conference.
Just my personal 2 cent.
Cheers,
Peter
Lots of (qualified, BTW) attendees and interesting discussion (I might be a little biased).
Not sure about minutes, but presentations will be available shortly at http://www.openldap.org/conf/
