Hi i have got
'symas-openldap-silver-2.4.11.0.sun4u.pkg' installed on System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4v Memory size: 32640 Megabytes System Peripherals (Software Nodes):
SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220
i have got 1 million subscribers 1.97 GB size of data for *.bdb files.
now my question is, i installed Sun Java Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6_3 on another identical machine and use its utility called 'searchrate' and 'modrate' for comparing these two servers' performances.
But this command hungs my symas openLDAP instance .i can't use multiple threads for 'modrate' testing. here is my command that hungs my solserver instance.
./des/dsrk6/bin/modrate -h 192.168.43.45 -p 389 -D "cn=saadet,o=saadettest" -w admin234 -b "mobile=%s,ou=subscribers,o=saadettest" -i ./des/dsrk6/bin/numbers.txt -t40 -C 5 -M 'occupation:10:[A-Z]'

The question is why can't i use these two utility commands for openLDAP? What have i done wrong?

These 2 utilities are included in the sun's Directory Server Resource Kit. if you google for file 'benchmarking_ds52.pdf' you can see the utilities also mentioned there. anyway i listened to your advice and setup slamd server. and did some searchtests.but i am very sad.because my Sun Java Directory Server out out out performed much better than my symas. i feel desperate for these results. i have got two machines both are same.System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4v SPARC Enterprise T5220 Memory size: 32640 Megabytes.64 cpu. one includes symas-openldap-silver-2.4.11.0.sun4u.pkg the other one Sun Java Directory Server 6.3
i first ran e Prime Job for my DB to be fully loaded to memory. then after i did the same searches for both of these servers. SunJava Server result for Searches Completed is :23358.974 Symas result for Searches Completed is:1814.640 my slapd.conf file is: sizelimit unlimited tool-threads 8 database bdb suffix "o=sdftest" rootdn "cn=sdf,o=sdftest" rootpw admin234 index default eq index objectClass index mobile eq cachesize 1000010 idlcachesize 1000010 checkpoint 256000 60 cachefree 9000
DB_CONFIG is: set_cachesize 26 0 1 set_flags DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE set_flags DB_TXN_NOSYNC set_lg_max 10485760 set_lg_bsize 2097152 set_lk_max_locks 3000 set_tas_spins 1
what else can i do to out perform symas to Sun Directory Server Enterprise Edition. i have to convince my project leader that symas is better than Sun,but how?

and make sure you are tuning OpenLDAP correctly before benchmarking. There is a tarball there that can be downloaded that can give you an idea on tuning.
