What if I disable the alock file generation in the back-bdb initialization? will it affect other functionalities like replication etc.

If slapd is stopped you can safely remove it. But you don't have to.

You're using 2.4.39. So do yourself a favour and consider migrating to
back-mdb to get rid of all the BDB mess.
