I actually ran the following command:

sudo ldapmodify -x -D'cn=admin,dc=domain,dc=tld' -W -f idx.ldif 

idx.ldif is just a simple olcDbIndex for testing purpose as such:

dn: olcDatabase={1}hdb,cn=config
changetype: modify
add: olcDbIndex
# posixAccount
olcDbIndex: cn eq
