The slave doesn't take writes, it refers the client to the Master. "I don't accept writes, speak to ldap://master:389/uid=testuser,dc=mycompany,dc=com" etc.

You can use slapo-chain to send writes back to the master from the slave, or use MirrorMode or N-Way Multimaster.

What are you trying to achieve with your current network layout?

I just want to have several openldap servers, and each modification to a server can replicate to all other servers.

As openldap 2.4 does not have stable version, I choose to use 2.3. Because 2.3 does not support 2.4, I do not use the N-masters configuration. So I want to use the referral to achieve the aim. When it modifies a slave, it refers to master, and the replicates to others.

Thanks you hint about slapo-chain. I will study it and try to use it.
